Calculate Your Solar Business Case
Commercial Solar ROI Calculator Scotland
Stop guessing and start modelling. Estimate your payback period, annual cash savings, and carbon reduction in under 30 seconds. This tool is calibrated specifically for Scottish businesses, using current 2026 grid electricity rates and Business Energy Scotland funding criteria to provide a realistic financial forecast.
Based on average commercial tariff rates of 25p/kWh. Figures are indicative estimates only.

Configure Your Project Inputs
To get an accurate forecast, input your current energy spend and available roof space. The calculator will automatically size a commercial solar PV system to match your consumption profile, ensuring you don't pay for capacity you don't need.
Annual Electricity Bill
Enter your total spend (£) excluding VAT and Climate Change Levy (CCL).
We use this to calculate your potential savings based on offsetting grid imports.

Your Financial Forecast
Based on your inputs, here is the projected performance of a Greentech solar system over a 25-year lifespan. These figures account for panel degradation and conservative energy price inflation.
£12,450 / year
Projected Annual Savings
This is the cash you keep in the business instead of paying to your energy supplier. This figure is index-linked; as grid prices rise, your savings increase.
3.8 Years
Estimated Payback Period
This is the time taken for the system to pay for itself through energy savings alone.
With SME Loan: Immediate Cash Positive (See below).
£240,000+
20-Year Net Profit
Solar panels are warranted for 25 years. After the payback period, every unit of electricity generated is effectively free, contributing directly to your bottom line.

Carbon Reduction
Equivalent to planting 700 trees annually. This data can be used directly in your SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) audits.

The Cost of Inaction
Doing nothing is not free. It is an active decision to continue paying rising grid prices. This graph visualizes the cumulative cost of your current energy contract versus the stability of a commercial solar investment.
Model with Government Funding
Capital Expenditure (CapEx) should not be a barrier. Toggle the Business Energy Scotland Loan to see how government funding transforms the business case.

ROI Calculator FAQs
What happens if I export energy to the grid?
The calculator assumes a conservative "Smart Export Guarantee" (SEG) rate of 5p/kWh for any energy you don't use. However, by adding commercial battery storage, you can store this excess energy instead of selling it cheap, further improving your ROI.
How do you calculate the "Payback Period"?
We calculate simple payback by dividing the Net System Cost (after grants) by the First Year Savings. We also factor in a conservative energy inflation rate of 5%. We do not include the tax benefits (Capital Allowances) in the standard payback figure, meaning your actual payback could be even faster depending on your corporation tax position.
Does this calculation include the £20k cashback grant?
Yes, when you toggle the "Apply SME Loan" switch, the calculator deducts the maximum available cashback (£20k or 75% of eligible costs) from the CapEx figure. Please note that grant funding is subject to availability and eligibility checks by Energy Saving Trust.
How accurate is this calculator?
This tool provides a "Class 3" estimate (typically +/- 15% accuracy). It assumes a standard south-facing roof and average consumption patterns. Real-world returns can be higher if you have a high daytime load (e.g., cold storage or manufacturing). For a "Class 1" investment-grade quote, we recommend booking a free commercial site survey.
Validate these numbers!
This calculator assumes a standard roof profile. A physical site survey allows our engineers to assess shading, cable runs, and structural capacity to give you a fixed-price proposal.
